Kerry Knickle



LLM (ADR)



Kerry Knickle is the Executive Director of Communication Matters: INESRA. Kerry has thirty years’ experience as Simulation Director and Academic Educator with the Michener Institute of Education at UHN and the University of Toronto. She currently acts as Communication and Dispute Resolution consultant and facilitator in the areas of simulation-based education and design.


Kerry has developed and delivered simulation curriculum for clients that include The College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants, Law Society of Ontario, Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario, Ontario Health and Osgoode Professional Development. Kerry developed the Collegial Conflict™ Workshop Series in 2004, followed by “The Nuts and Bolts of Facilitation” with Nancy McNaughton in 2008 for law enforcement, faculty educators and professional practitioners.


Kerry’s dispute resolution focus highlights how assumptions, judgments and communication skill inform and impact personal and professional relationships.


Kerry holds a Master of Laws degree, with a specialization in Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) from York University’s Osgoode Hall.



Nancy McNaughton



MEd, PhD



Dr. Nancy McNaughton is the Executive Director and Founding Partner of Communication Matters: INESRA and Assistant Professor with the Institute for Health Policy Management and Evaluation in School of Public Health, University of Toronto.


Dr. McNaughton has over 30 years’ experience in the field of simulation-based education with a special focus on mental health education and compassion focused communication. Over the last 20 years Nancy has worked with a number of national organizations developing and delivering interactive courses in leadership development, facilitation techniques, approaches to difficult communication, as well as Train-the-Trainer courses focusing on communication in professional development.


Dr. McNaughton is actively engaged as an educator and researcher working with a broad range of professional groups including national and provincial organizations to help design and implement regulatory, certification and licensing programs.
